The future of packaging will be driven by sustainability and innovation, and for Jointhope, such a future has already begun today. Product innovation is not only at the core of Jointhope's goal to become the world's leading packaging company, it is also the key to build the future of the plastic flexible packaging industry.
Jointhope is committed to making continuous progress towards making all plastic flexible packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2030.

What attributes should the packaging companies of the future possess?
Packaging has always played an important role, not only in protecting and beautifying products, but also in ensuring that they can be safely transported from where they are produced to where they are needed. As the population grows and urbanization accelerates, the need to transport products safely is more pressing than ever. At the same time, the requirements for packaging are changing and packaging needs to become more sustainable. In addition to ensuring the safe delivery of products, packaging companies of the future will need to focus on where packaging goes after creating and using solutions that support the circular economy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, the packaging companies of the future will not only need to have expertise in material selection and product delivery, but will also have to create solutions that can be recycled and recovered in new ways so that these materials or packages can be reused or reprocessed into new packages.

What new technologies or products are urgently needed in the context of creating a more sustainable packaging industry?
It's worth noting that today people are able to innovate more recyclable forms of packaging, whereas five years ago this recyclability was questioned by some in the industry. Traditional packaging tends to be made from familiar materials and produced through proven processes. But from an industry development perspective, we need to think about whether it's possible to develop packaging that also operates efficiently in a recycling system, while maintaining its superior performance and functionality.

What are the most important tasks for the packaging industry in order to unlock a more sustainable packaging future?
First and foremost, there needs to be harmonization within the industry in terms of packaging design and its sustainability features. If all packaging is recyclable, reusable or compostable, then consumers won't be confused when disposing of it, but that's only the first step. The packaging industry also needs to seriously consider how it can work closely with other parts of the entire value chain to ensure that packaging can be effectively recovered and function in a reuse system that allows it to be recycled. It is not enough to simply put recyclable packaging on the market; it is also necessary to ensure that there is a sound recycling infrastructure in place and that consumers are encouraged to actively participate in its use.

What trends will have the biggest impact on the packaging industry in the coming years?
We are currently seeing a significant increase in the number of regulations across the globe, particularly those related to extended producer responsibility, which will profoundly impact the packaging industry in the coming years. In addition, the rest of the packaging value chain - both downstream, with waste management companies, and upstream, with material producers - is increasingly willing to participate directly in the development of circular economy solutions. Another trend driving progress is the positive interaction between the circular economy and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. When we reduce our reliance on virgin resources and use more recycled content by designing recyclable packaging, we almost always reduce the carbon footprint of packaging. The circular economy is helping to drive the packaging industry towards zero emissions, and the focus on zero emissions is further driving the circular economy. These trends will ultimately have a profound impact on the packaging industry, and Jointhope is actively working to help shape and respond to these changes.
